Author Guidelines

The journal publishes review articles and original research papers presenting new scholarly results in historical studies and related fields of the humanities. Particular attention is given to the history of the Turkic peoples of Russia and Eurasia, world history, historiography, source studies, historical methodology, and methods of historical research.

-  The journal accepts manuscripts submitted by postgraduate students and applicants for academic degrees.

-  Manuscripts by master’s students are accepted for consideration only if co-authored with their academic supervisor.

-  The length of the article, excluding metadata — abstract, references, and information about the author — must be at least 25,000 characters.

-  The text must be structured. Authors are expected to follow the IMRAD format — Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion — unless the chosen manuscript genre requires a different structure. In such cases, an authorial structure with clearly identified sections may be used, provided that the sections Introduction and Conclusion are included.

-  Submitting a manuscript as a continuous, unstructured text is not permitted, as this makes the material difficult to read and understand.

-  The reference list must include at least 15 scholarly publications, including no fewer than 2 articles by foreign authors published in highly cited foreign-language journals indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, or similar international scientometric databases.

-  The manuscript must include a Conflict of Interest statement in accordance with the journal template. All authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could be perceived as influencing the results or conclusions presented in the work, or state: “The authors declare no conflict of interest.”

The following documents must be submitted to the journal editorial office:

  1. An electronic version of the article in MS Word format, prepared in accordance with the journal template;
  2. An expert opinion confirming the possibility of publication;
  3. Consent to the processing of personal data and to the placement of the published article in full-text databases, prepared in accordance with the authors’ consent template. A hard copy must be provided for each author with a personal signature; double-sided printing is required;
  4. A license agreement prepared in accordance with the agreement template. A hard copy must be provided with the signatures of all authors; double-sided printing is required. The date should not be entered in the agreement.

Consent forms for the processing of personal data and the license agreement should be sent by mail to the following address:

420111, 44 Levo-Bulachnaya St., Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan, Kazan Federal University, Editorial Office of Studia Turkologica.

  • All manuscripts submitted to the editorial office of Studia Turkologica are checked for plagiarism and self-plagiarism. Articles with a high percentage of plagiarism or self-plagiarism are automatically withdrawn from consideration, and the authors of such articles lose the opportunity to publish their work in the journal in the future.

The following manuscripts are not accepted for consideration:

  1. Manuscripts that do not comply with the journal’s formatting requirements;
  2. Manuscripts that do not meet the requirements for scholarly works;
  3. Manuscripts with a high percentage of plagiarism or self-plagiarism;
  4. Manuscripts containing serious spelling, grammatical, or stylistic errors.
  • Manuscripts rejected by the editorial office at the pre-review stage are not subject to further consideration and may not be resubmitted to the journal. The editorial office does not provide reviews for such manuscripts.
  • Manuscripts are subject to peer review. The decision to publish an article is made by the journal’s editorial board on the basis of the reviewer’s report.
  • A manuscript may be rejected both at the peer-review stage and at the editing stage.
  • Manuscripts not accepted for publication are not returned.
  • The editorial office does not charge any fees for the submission, review, or publication of articles.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The article has not been previously published and has not been submitted for consideration and publication in another journal, unless an explanation has been provided in the comments to the editor.

  2. The submitted manuscript file is provided in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect format.

  3. Full Internet addresses — URLs — are provided for references where possible.

  4. Italics, rather than underlining, are used for emphasis. All illustrations, graphs, and tables are placed in appropriate locations within the text rather than at the end of the document.

  6. The reference list is formatted according to the sample provided in the template.
